Beautiful ceramic mug decorated with Shevitsa
from the Village of Buhovo (Shopska folklore area) - a detail.
A beautiful Mug that will bring color and mood
into your day. Great gift for family and friends.
A wonderful souvenir gift for a foreigner - to
preserve a beautiful memory from Bulgaria.
The cup is decorated with a detail from Sofia's Svilenitsa
of Bukhovo village from the end of the twentieth century - circa 1898. The
original embroidery is made of multicolored woolen threads in size 21.5 x14.5
cm.
In this embroidery we find differences from
typical Sofia embroideries in terms of ornamentation, colors and techniques used.
The Embroidery from the village of Buhovo illustrates the transition to the
Vratsa Embroidery.
For the first time this motif was published in
the compilation “Bulgarian Folk Embroideries - Western and Northwestern
Bulgaria” by St. L. Kostov, ed. 1929. Plant and geometric motifs and figures
typical of the Sofia region are depicted. In the ideas of the Bulgarian flowers
protect against evil eyes, so they often decorated their clothes with them.
